Not sure who's been following this, but the new GX was released yesterday. As a current GX & LR owner, I have to say they did an amazing job with this. Honestly looks more LR than the new LRs. The Interior and exterior are fantastic. Looks like a full size Jimny

TTv6 10 speed auto stupid buttons in screen etc.

OTOH the trail whatever offroad package is nice 33in tires and rear locker. I bet that package comes to Lx600.

Looks like they took the styling queues from the ye olde 79 series station wagon. Which has good looks. I did wish the new L663 took more styling from the L316/older defenders. Interior is laid out well. Steering wheel controls are a bit busy but I'm sure its fine. Flappy paddles on the wheel are always good to have. Toyota got their act together on traction control with the GX460/LC200 so I assume this has has good or better traction control. Rear locker is cool too.

Overall I'm not impressed once you get into the numbers. Despite having a larger tire, the approach, breakover, and departure angle are about what my D5 is at normal ride height (in off road height, the L462 takes it on 100% and the L663 is far superior). I know the ladder chassis and solid rear axle are key selling points but rover and jeep have proven full independent is fine. Towing capacity goes to CRAP with the higher luxury packages. Power is ok I guess. Once again lacking behind the P360 and P400 options. 3rd row is not in all packages. Now that I have a family, that 3rd row has become very convenient.

Either way, all those who want it won't be able to afford it. I just checked auto trader and it seems like the prices of the GX460 are between $62k and $74k. So I suspect it'll start around ~$75k and go up from there. Of course that assumes there isn't any "market adjustments" which dealers have been enjoying for the past few years.

See below link for the press release. Specs are at the end. I'm sure there will be tons and tons and tons of aftermarket to increase power, off road angles, clearance, etc. I'll be interested on what the overland package offers vs. the standard packages.

The 600 was actually about $1k cheaper than the previous as far as MSRP if my memory serves me correctly. Regardless there was effectively no real change in the price. The GX550 will probably be base $60, Overtrail $72k, optioned out $75k.

It’s a better product than anything LR puts out there. Resale and reliability are light years ahead.

Lexus and Toyota are not trying to out price themselves and compete with some idea of excessive luxury branding.

I am excited about this vehicle more than any of the other new vehicles. It’s a known quantity vs what the Grenadier was for its price tag. It’ll outlast the LR offerings no matter how much you love the on paper specs.

I was quite interested in the outgoing model, but wanted more towing ability. Hopefully it does better with the new generation.

This truck may put me over the edge on not ordering a grenadier. Checks most of the same boxes, similar price, similar options, but likely way easier to deal with and likely cheaper TCO. If the rear seats fold flat then it's as good as done. 😆

Never owned a yota.

Well said, plus its ugly and will just shed plastic on the trail.

Can imagine they go to non-in floor seats as GX460 has that.
