NAS oil cooler lines

Well, it looks like I still have the original version of oil cooler lines in my 97nas. Doesn't look like they were updated when the frame swap was done number of years ago. My bad.

Is there a wrap I can use in the meantime until I find a fire proof set? Anyone know where to source?

Just pull them off till you get replacements. Many of us have run without the oil cooler for years. You can take the lines to a hydraulics shop and have them rebuild them, order new lines from any number of vendors, or go the upgraded route from Trailmate, or build your own with ECR's plans..

Ah didn't know you could run without them. I just did an oil change..can I wrap em in heat foil while I wait to get replacements? I'm down to this truck as my daily now until my Tithonus gets it's IP fixed.

I'll look at Trailmate. Thanks!

there might be a fitting somewhere that allows you to run without them, but Ive never seen it. maybe the ones suggesting this are thinking of v-belt timing cover or d2/p38 covers, and not d1/ 4.0 90

The install angle looks funny, like it would foul the ac heat shield if it weren't chipped. do you have the clamps that tie the 2 lines together? its supposed to be where the 2 hard lines from the radiator are crimped to the soft lines.

Ive got d1s, but the same parts as yours. I installed trailheads on one of mine. OK I guess. all the others get proline or whatever non genuine replacements are out there maybe every 10 years since 98. I dont want to jinx myself, but no problems with them so far

I agree on the install angle, thanks for pointing that out but looking up there seems to be ample room/flex, they're genuine. And yes, they have the clamps at both ends on the hard line sections. I've got a call into Trailhead.

I was speaking in terms of the v-belt configured '93-'95 defenders, didn't realize the oil filter configuration was vastly different on the '97 serpentine trucks, my apologies..

i wrapped mine with aluminized heat sleeve from amazon. Costs about $30 to wrap both lines top to bottom.
It sufficiently mitigates the fire issue and I can inspect the hoses if I need.

So what's funny is I had originals on for almost 15 years - I had a bunch of work done at a reputable shop that does a lot of Rovers for the summer people in New England - I had pre bought almost all the parts and had the Land Rover cooler lines. He called me and said he can install a SS braided line that was much better than what I had bought but they were like 5x the cost.

I told him - but the originals lasted almost 15 years - which is 3x longer than I should have had them installed - and even these braided SS lines need to be changed every 5 - 8 years (ideally) so that ended the "up sale" - LOL.

But here we are again - original parts with high quality and the first question is - "what's better than these?" - LOL.

One of the issues with the original lines was how they were routed, the stainless ones remedy that. I had the Trailhead lines on my white 110, they were very high quality

New oil cooler lines from Trailhead are in and routed far away from the exhaust manifold. Big thanks to the owner for helping with my questions and to the members for pointing me in the right direction!
