LR4?

I've been contemplating getting rid of our people carrier (Highlander) and getting a 2012/2013 LR4, which are now in the 25-35k range with 60-100k miles.. Any ideas on reliability, expense, moderate offroad use, etc? I'm hoping they end up somewhat close to the reliability of the LR3's, but have no idea if that's the case. Any thoughts here? I know Barry has one but unsure how he feels.

I've not owned mine long enough to have an option on reliability or expense but I have a friend that owns an indie LR shop and has a very high opinion of both the 3&4. I personally wish the front seats came with a higher grade leather. The leather is not going to last well unless you stay on it with cleaners and conditioner IMO.

I have had my 2011 LR4 for 3 years now and still love it. 35K mileage when I bought it and 65k now. In my time of ownership, I have had to do brakes, tires and a water pump. Otherwise it has been great.

Thanks, guys.. my wife and I resolved to put in a reservation for a new Tesla, but then once my oldest son starts driving, I'm going to get myself an LR4. The other feedback that I'm getting is close to what you all are saying but you have to stay on top of maintenance, etc.

We just sold our 2015 LR4 HSE with 23K miles that was purchased new.
Observations are as follows; V6SC engine had plenty of power and was quick off the line and good for highway passing for a heavy truck. A few too many software updates to fix little things like ECO mode and suspension. The original tires pretty thin for the miles I was expecting 5K more miles before needing replacement. 19 wheels are odd size to find good off road tires 18 or 20 would have been better choice from factory. The seats are okay in the HSE but the LUX model has better leather and softer seats. They did hold up well to a family of four with messy kids in the back and carrying 2 extra kids very often. I only carried bikes and didn't tow but I had zero issues traveling cross country with 4 bikes and gear in the very back. Maintenance cost pretty normal for a luxury brand. MPG's not bad on hwy and if you have a light foot the city isn't bad either. Space behind the third row seat when in use is small. Looks like JLR has fixed most of the major issues by 2015 as we never saw anything of note based on the earlier models. Late model LR4 are in demand and had zero issues selling the truck for KBB/Edmunds trade in prices that covered all of our costs. Way better experience than my other new Rovers purchased over the last 20 years. Finally it still looks like a Land Rover IMHO. Good luck in your future search.
