LR Part number to McMaster-Carr

Does anyone have a list of the McMaster-Carr parts that match up with LR part numbers? I don't mind putting one together, but I'd like to not duplicate someone work if I don't have to.

At the same time, is there a list of how many of part X are needed for a whole car?

Ideally I'd like to be able to punch in a LR part number and have it tell me the McMaster-Carr part number, the locations it is used in, with an individual use quantity, and an overall quantity. Is this too much to ask for?

Good point. On my 109, the bonnet pin clip is pretty much my arch nemesis. I just tried buying a quantity from England, but its NLA. The rover part number is 336536. Some parts stores on this side charge a few dollars for one.

I found these. I need to find out the size of the original so I can just order these instead.

A LR crossover parts list would be a huge undertaking to make and a blessing to access once completed. To my knowledge none exists so you would be a hero putting one together.

OK I was afraid of that answer. One of the hardest things so far has been sourcing Pozi screws. It just isn't fiscally possible in the quantities an individual would need. My wife wouldn't be too happy if I started a "rare" fasteners import company.

The second problem with putting a list together is finding the original specs for LR fasteners. RN has a few part numbers that link to a substitute, so I used that as a guideline as well as trying to match what I pull off. But I'm pretty sure LR didn't use drywall screws to hold the dash together.

I'll probably start to put this together in a google doc, but my goal would be to have it all in a website with a search function.

Ok quick update. I have been mulling this over for a while now. The easiest route would be to use a google doc to link LR part numbers to McMaster-Carr (or similar) sites.

But, I noticed while starting this project, that it is really, really nice to know if the screw you currently need, is included anywhere else. For example, the screws I need for the new LT77 tunnel, are also used on the floors and the inner front fender. Instead of just needing 9, I will actually need 31. So even the 25 pack isn't enough. There are also many options from McM-C as to the materials. Sometimes I just want the cheapest Stainless, other times I'd like a Black Oxide. I just like options.

SO, I'm happy to share the first step of the Land Rover Parts Compatibility Database. The OEM description drop-downs are contextual. So if you select a Metric, size M10, it will give the options "1", "1.25", and "1.5" for pitch. I'm still working on these sections, but the plan is to add drive type (Pozi, Hex, Philips, Flat, ect), and Head type (pan, beveled, socket, round, ect).

So what else would you like to see in a database of parts?

For now I am keeping this private. But in the future, anyone with a link will be able to view the database and search. A select few will be given a login to add to the database, or edit entries.

Finding substitute parts (especially for NLA parts), listing amounts of similar fasteners used in different locations - I can't even begin to calculate the time it would have saved me searching in just the last year alone.
Put me on the cheer team to keep you motivated!

I have to do so much of it just to get mine up and running that I might as well do it for everyone. I know I will not come close to being 100% complete, but over time it should fill itself in.

That page shows the same style clip that is used on the clevis type pins that go through the transfer case shift linkage on the Defender Style vehicles. That and the little sheet metal type captive nuts that go on the seat box, dash, floor boards and so on would be good to have on that list.

Depending on how you built this, I'm happy to host this at NAS-ROW.

It's all hosted with Ragic! They have a free database system intended for small businesses to keep customer records, product information, and easily generate sales order slips. The Database I need is so simple in comparison to what it can do. The only limit is that with the free hosting, I can't add any other users. So it looks like I will be the only one entering data. I have a few plans to help with that in the future though. I'd like to set up a new thread once it is completely up and running.

Added features to include those too. Thanks for the suggestion.

Wow this would be too good to be true. What a fantastic resource this will be.

But it is true! I even have a few entries to have people check it out. This is view only through this link. https://www.ragic.com/thevermonster

It is still a WIP, but I think I have everything nailed down where I want it. Linking now works so related parts, or new part numbers will take you directly to that page.

My wife gave birth to our daughter on the 24th so it's been a little hectic but I have made some progress. I'm home all day, and itching to do some work while she sleeps.

The layout of the form is finalized, unless someone sees something that absolutely must be added. The only limiting thing right now is pictures. I only have 200MB of space and I don't have the time to optimize images. If this is successful I will upgrade the account to have more storage space so we can have images of the part, as well as the parts diagram.

So to really get the ball rolling I need a little help. I have 2 Google forms that I need to have tested, which should also help fill the database. First up is the parts request. https://goo.gl/forms/G0z22M92AkYaRutA3 Fill this out if you have a part that you would like me to find a compatible piece for. I need to build up a bit of a backlog to test the importing feature.

The second form is a feature request/bug report form. https://goo.gl/forms/1XAi7xoYe0CgQaWo1 Use this if needed.

I'd like to fill the database a little bit more, then I'll start a new thread to "advertise" it. At that point we can share it. Hopefully it helps it take off, and drives some traffic to this site :D
