Locker installs?

Alright, lets see your locker setup.

I have run ARBs in my RRCs since 2003.
This is my first time installing them in a Defender.
It is a 90 ST so real estate is limited.
I don't want to reinvent the wheel.

So far, I got the rear 3rd installed and put in some HD shafts this afternoon.
Next , I'd like to install the compressor, and run the air lines and switches.

Later, I'll pull the front apart and install the front 3rd.

So, I guess the obvious place for compressor is the passenger seat compartment.

Any other ideas?

I had mine under the passenger seat. PITA if you use it for airing up, and the pump I had got really hot using it that much. So you had to wait a bit before I felt comfortable getting back on the road before it cooled off. But in reality I am not sure where else you can really put it that doesn't infringe upon the interior.

Good luck with your decision.

I like where they put it in jeeps. They make a nice master cylinder mount that uses the master mounting bolts

That's a good point.
It doesnt get all that hot during locker operation but I'm sure it'll be roasting after airing up the first tire.
I do have a Viair in a bag I can use for tires but... carrying 2 compressors?/

Wouldn't a power tank be a good option? Take it out when not in use. Mount it anywhere. Or can you use that warn winch that has an air compressor built in to power lockers?

Power tanks have a bracket that needs to be very securely mounted. The bracket takes up more space than an air compressor even without the tank mounted.

Thought you weren't going to wheel it ?

Well, here's the thing....

The diff that was in it was whining and clunked more than I could tolerate.
I already had a pair of ARB's with stock gearing sitting in my shed.
And you know how slippery those campsites can get...

If Jimmy comes back to Virginia someday, I want to be ready to go car-camping. #carcampingcollective
Jimmy, does yours get hot under there?

Yeah, I have a knockoff Powertank but they do take up a lot of space and that Warn is mucho $$. And I already have a Superwinch.
I have to save some space for the Engel...

What about doing it on board air compressor that's engine run in place of an AC compressor

Do you have enough Snow Peak for car camping?

The compressor itself gets hot, but I always have the seat base and cover off whenever I'm using it. I haven't mounted a remote coupler and switch for the compressor. I might one day, but I don't mind popping the seat off to air up tires.

My ARB Dual compressor is in the passenger seat compartment..
Outlets are on each side truck besides the seats (inside the truck).
Locker solenoids, pressure regulator and manifold are also in the passenger compartment.

I am planning on adding a 2 gal tank under the truck - which will help with both lockers and filling 2 tires at once.

when using the lockers the compressor only runs for a brief 30 seconds or so - once they engage they stay there so no issues with heat etc from the compressor. When I fill tires I pull the seat base and cover off anyway (thats where the lines are stored) so its not an issue. I would like to move the compressor to the engine bay and keep everything else the same at some point but will need to build a custom bracket.

That is a nice looking install, Rob!

I came up with a plan last night...

I'm going to try and use an old RRC EAS box.
A few cuts to shorten the length and welded it back together.
My plan is to mount it on the outer frame under the drivers side.... we'll do a test fit tonight.

So will you use an lwb pump and tank ?
Have two LWB's and an extra tank. Have wanted
to re utilize them as an oba source. Like to take the stuff off the white
93 and fit a system to my 110 project.

I'm just using the ARB pump.
I already had it, it's ready to hook up and go.
But, I'm sure the LWB pump could be made to work.
It looks like a robust little pump.

I dont really see where I could utilize the LWB air tank...there's just not much space under a 90.
Under the bigger trucks, there is so much more space on the frames for air tanks.
I'm going to make these brackets tonight hopefully(pics of LWB EAS box brackets)

You can mount the tank to the frame under the passenger seat. Or a shorter one shout fit on the drivers side ish inside the frame rails mounted side to side. That is where I’m thinking about mounting the viair tank I have.
