Land Rovers That Suck

It's legit hard for me to write something negative online about someone... so, I secretly share my disdain with the dozen of you.

Can't the seller "bring a wiper" ??

My heart sank when I saw the interior. Out of a number of trucks available right now, this one would concern me the most as to little future "surprises"".

Why is that mattress style upholstery considered high end? So many import trucks and boutique builds have that with some crazy colors. To each his own I guess.

@WAGONBOYTD if you in Florida I can show you the car and drive it. The Gearbox is LT77 it is an updated version of a Jaguar gearbox that found its way into current model British cars manufactured by British Leyland. LT77 is much more preferred over 380 especially for off road driving. It is nice to have Reverse right there with 1st and 2nd gear.

Is the LT77 really better?

And having reverse so close to 1st is easier? It isn't like you are really moving your hand that far.

The bent shifter seems more problematic for comfort.

Easier to rock the vehicle when stuck with first and reverse as neighbors. Otherwise, the guy is full of it. Late LT77s were just adequate in strength. R380 is a further strengthened evolution of the LT77.

I totally disagree with the advantage of next to each other as I don't think there is any advantage to trying to shift that quickly given and have it actually work. You rock a vehicle by (choose gear) slow load, let off and fall back with gravity and repeat. You can never do it quick enough where "quick shifting" actually works better. Yes, you can shift into first then into reverse, but the full process isn't really quicker in the "escape stuck" sense---at least in my life. I just think that poster was full of shit.

As for strength, I am also not so certain that R380's are that much stronger then LT77. But they do have a better synchro set up and shift better.

That all said, it really just sucks to have Reverse and first next to each other. I have shifted accidentally into reverse a lot over the years. I finally rid myself of doing that (mostly), but then a friend would drive and...

Any rover manual post LT95 is crap. ZF auto will
Run for 400k, TF727 it will still run when the frame is dust and that is on a desert truck. But I like my third pedal.

yeah…me too. Shifting connects me to the driving experience. And first line of defense on theft. My LS is automatic and when choosing for the r2.8/110…I went manual. Although I did consider the AX15, tremic, NV3500/4500 as well. In the end I swapped out the LT77 for the R380. Did same swap with the NAS. But I had a strong decade with the LT77– it’s fine and if no issues, I’d see no reason to change it. It’s carried many a person through tough demanding conditions. It’s not superior to r380 and his reasoning is used-car salesman.

If you want strong and not worried about weight, then the nv4500 is a beast. if you’re running big numbers…

If there’s one Santana feature, I like it’s the punched vents on the hood. Intended as a heater inlet, would work well to extract under hood heat on Defenders.
