Insurance for LR

I have just acquired a beautiful 1993 RRC and hope to get my 1984 LR110 back on the road soon. However, I am not having much luck with insurance. So far the insurers either say the vehicles are essentially worthless due to age, or they will only insure "show cars" that are only driven or trailered to car shows. Clearly a Land Rover is worth a considerable sum and they are not show cars.

Anybody have any advice or suggestions for an insurance company willing to value these vehicles appropriately?

Thanks.

Paul

They won't write a policy on an agreed value? Such as, you say a truck is worth $20000 if totaled and they say they will insure it for X amount.

So, since I primarily do insurance defense for a living, this was a big concern for me. However, my Virginia Farm Bureau agent has advised me that it won't be an issue with VFB. I don't have a truck to insure yet, so I can't verify - but I'm happy to send you his contact info if you want.

Agreed value insurance is tough. Every insurer that I looked at had mileage limits on the policy that were pretty low. I don't drive my truck much but I put 3-4K on it easily during my summer trips.

I thought the agreed upon value would be the way to go. The trick is finding an insurer willing to do it. I will check out State Farm and VFB. Contact info is appreciated. USAA did not seem interested in negotiating a value.

Good luck

Yeah, I found that out with USAA, a good company though. Basically I don't have enough insurance on any of mine...except the 4Runner. Go figure. I need to do some shopping too. I have heard AllState will do agree to a value. Good luck. Let us know what you find out.

I use Nationwide in NC. Have other autos/home with them
I had no issues insuring my 1991 D90 ROW. I did obtain a vehicle appraisal to help them attach a value to it and prove its worth it.

Hagerty seems like the best. But they didn't like that the vehicle wasn't going to be garaged. Esurance, Progressive, and Geico will all send you to Hagerty. Allstate couldn't do it because it was a "grey market" vehicle. Amica was ok with it, but rates were triple what Hagerty offered (could have rented a garage for cheaper!).

In the end Liberty Mutual offered the best price, and the least amount of hassle. I was on the phone with an agent in 30 seconds and had the entire plan set up with ID cards in 30 min. We swapped over 2 DD cars, and renter's which gave a big discount.

How much was your Hagerty premium? I just got a quote for my 94 D90 and they wanted $1,027 for the year. That's with 50k agreed policy. Sounds high.

Anyone else have an insurer that will do agreed policy for less 1k/year?

Hagerty will do 5k miles, but how can you track if your speedometer is broken?

Yeah just the 110 was like $1600. I put a '68 BMW on it and it dropped to $1100 for both. I also only had the agreed amount at $25k as our 110 is in need of a lot of work.
