Injection pump question

I have a 1996 300TDI 110 that cuts out and dies on me and is unable to put under load without killing the engine. I’ve had shop working through it to try to find the problem and they seem to think the fuel injection pump has failed. The went through lift pump, fuel lines, etc. With an electric pump feeding the injection pump directly, there is still fuel starvation, white smoke and the engine cuts out with any load. The truck can idle and that’s about it.

The truck has blanked off and disconnected EGR. Can I put a nonEGR injection pump on without modifications?
I’m looking at this one

I just got the truck, so I have no idea what all has been done to the pump. I know it has a boost ring and has been adjusted. I got quite a bit of black smoke when driving before the recent fuel starvation problems.

I’m thinking it would be nice to have a stock pump so that I’ll know what adjustments have been done.

Any 200 or 300 pump will fit. Have you bled the system all the way to the injectors?

Also you will need the pump holding tool to remove it without touching the timing belt

Thanks. I don’t know if he’s bleed the injection pump. Additional procedure for that? I’ve only primed with the lift pump.

With the engine running at idle crack open the big nuts on top of the injectors slightly until you only get fuel trying to shoot out of them. They only need to be opened about a half turn. This will allow the air to escape from the system and then you can tighten those nuts up

It should only take maybe 15 seconds per injector If the engine is idling to push all the air out
