I have a 1996 300TDI 110 that cuts out and dies on me and is unable to put under load without killing the engine. I’ve had shop working through it to try to find the problem and they seem to think the fuel injection pump has failed. The went through lift pump, fuel lines, etc. With an electric pump feeding the injection pump directly, there is still fuel starvation, white smoke and the engine cuts out with any load. The truck can idle and that’s about it.
The truck has blanked off and disconnected EGR. Can I put a nonEGR injection pump on without modifications?

I just got the truck, so I have no idea what all has been done to the pump. I know it has a boost ring and has been adjusted. I got quite a bit of black smoke when driving before the recent fuel starvation problems.
I’m thinking it would be nice to have a stock pump so that I’ll know what adjustments have been done.
