Do your brake lights work when you press the pedal?
Also, when I had my '97 console/auto shifter torn down, I removed that pin from the safety solenoid so I can't get locked in park ever again.
185,000 miles on my '97 and NEVER had an issue with mine.
Until the day the solenoid fails or the brake light witch fails and you are stranded....

Just a comment on removing the interlock. Removing it makes it so the truck can be started in gear
If so when you start in in gear, what happens ?
I've never started an auto in gear, only P or N.
Even in the '97's which I think are all automatics.

You hope there's no one standing in front of your rig at the time.
On the autos, the solenoid is mounted to the side of the shifter box. What pin is that?, Easy to remove?
These solenoids are notorious for failing on the shifter and the LT230.
