heaterbox flap retainers removal

What is wizardry behind these flap retainers? how do they come off? prying got me nowhere, nor did spinning them forcefully. Also, are there replacements? Thanks.

Got some from the hardware store, buggy axle clamps? Cut them off.

Yes, I pried mine off, but my flap levers are also mangled and I’ve been looking a
for an replacement or alternative.

Snapped them with pliers, then a used a wiper arm puller to get the damn things off. Rest of the teardown was easy, hopefully I get it right putting it all back together.

I took mine apart- knowing these clips are hardware store items are a good thing. Is the orientation of the arm parallel to the flap? It has been a while since I disassembled and I forgot to take notes....
