Headliner

Anyone recover, repair or otherwise refresh their headliner in black?

Thoughts? Regrets? Pics? Did it turn your truck into a claustrophobic dark cave?

Would like to eventually recover mine and was thinking to do it in black, but when I mentioned it, one of my daughters looked at me like this

I have not but I think it would look great. I plan on spraying vinyl dye on my plastic interior bits at some point.

Thanks Dave.

My interior trim bits have some sort of old-wallpaper looking material on them. Plan is to pull it all along with headliner and have it all recovered at the same time.

Is it the off white color? Your member truck is an 86. I don't think they switched to the plastic/felt/rubbery material that feels stretchy and squishy until the 90s.

It might have been off-white in 86, but looks like a old, weathered beige-ish/brown-ish color of unknown origin :D

Not sure what's underneath yet....

I was out testing new cars. Explorer had a black headliner. Don't think thats why I disliked it, but it didn't help.

A dark coloured Alcantera was used for the headliner material in Defenders with the top interior spec.for the last years of production. I drove a 110 in Solihull with either a really dark grey or black headliner, which seemed fine. (had the full black leather seats, and black carpet) Being that there are so many windows, there's lots of light inside.

I think with a van configuration it may be a little dark.

I have a black headliner. PO redid the originals. Since I still have the grey panels and whatnot, I barely notice. The front of my 90 is sagging now a little and the back was a bit of a hack job but he admitted it. If and when gets worse, I might pull them both and go back to stock. But as of now...i've actually gotten complements from other owners with the white-ish liner.

I just drove about 200 miles in a new Rav-4. Black interior, but the pillars and roof were a light grey. It definitely made the whole interior feel larger. I think a 90 would be ok with a dark headliner, but a 110 might feel really cramped.

Tape up a black piece of plastic and see what it's like. A $5 investment and it will answer your question.
