Getting it Straight

OK... So my wings and front brace, and bumper and bonnet strike are all in place and tight.... but nothing is quite straight as it should be.

The brace that goes across between the wings in front of the radiator is higher on one side than it is on the other. The wings have enough ...usage... that there is no way to truly set them right by simply getting the bolts in the center of each hole. And the strike plate for the bonnet is adjusted to the max, while the pin and hook on the bonnet are also adjusted to the max.

In other words, it's all a bit sideways and uneven.

What is the best way to try to readjust all this?

It can take many hours to get right. Every single bolt hole is elongated to enable you to adjust fitment. I tighten nothing until everything fits properly. Once everything aligns I start tightening @ the front because if you tighten the fender to bulkhead bolts first it can/will pull everything out of alignment. Be glad you aren't contending with a cage as well.

You can run a string from the back to the front using the lines on the tub (I used the crease at the top of the "bulge" right below the windows) to be what you are aligning against. It will really help you see run-out and run-in (or whatever you want to call it). That may also help. Truth is for mine when I did the cage, I just did it by sight and that was close enough. You can spend a lot of time aligning everything. I would recommend cutting a bunch of shims if you need them and you want it to be perfect. You can spend an inordinate amount of time as, like Doug said, when you tighten some things it throws a bunch of things off....
