FYI, Tyre valves

Been meaning post this up, but last year we had a tyre blow out on the trailer, less than two year old Coopers At3's. The tread had completely parted from the side wall one side.
Change the tyre on the road side and when trying to air it up noticed the valve stem was split, cause of the blow out?. Happend to check the other side and found that one was also cracked.
So did they change the valve stems that where charged for or not. Since this I have removed all cheap stems and gone to high pressure and also clamp on types.
Check your stems.

I do have a set of those (not that brand) that I picked up years ago. Stored in my oh shit bag. But it's another one of those that you should have things. But in my case my oh shit bag was in the LR 400 miles away lol.

caution advised using the high pressure/metal valve stems in an off road application as they will break, rather then deflect, when encountering a hazard.

for a trailer application they are perfect.

Must just have been shitty stems. I always use short rubber stems and have never had an issue.

Maybe shitty rubber or maybe excessive uv but had a similar problem with the tire tubes on my 1951 80 inch.
The rubber at the valve perished and cracked causing a leak.
Pulled all 5 tires off and inspected tubes 3 of 5 were perfect, 2 of 5 the valve stems were visibly split just above the rim.
One of these was split through and leaked, managed to pull the valve stem off by hand.
All tubes appeared undamaged where protected by the tire.
I put it down to Texas sun and parking orientation.
Tubes were 4 years old.
Never had this problem in the UK.
