Front Axle Casing - Plug?

Any idea why this plug on my front axle casing would have a zerk-type fitting on it??

That is your axle breather, it should have a black nylon tube that runs along the radius arm and turns back up towards the engine bay.

Thanks man!! - Also checked the rear axle. It does have a breather tube.

For the front axle, where does the open-breather end of the tube typically get tied off in the engine bay?

Mine runs up the radius arm and snakes in the engine bay and goes through a metal loop on the top back of the engine.
