Exchange Rates

Exchange rates for the British Pound are nearing parity, and the Euro is just below parity--which means that now seems like an excellent time to make your large overseas parts order, or to import that truck you have been looking at (excluding shipping costs, which have admittedly risen dramatically).

Always great to watch exchange rates from living in Japan, Brasil, and Switzerland. Maybe the MSRP drops on the LR product? 😁

i've had the same thought but from some admittedly quick research, it seems most vendors base their costs on USD (ie when you convert the currency to USD it's pretty much the same as if you bought stateside) so you don't really get any real savings but get really dinged on shipping. Is there some other strategy to take advantage of the strong dollar?

With LRDirect you'll see prices change daily based on the exchange rate.

^ Our US-based suppliers are great. If you are getting price-pairity with the UK shops, **and they have the item in stock** then you should support them.

That being said, the now-former Bearmach (inventory purchased by Paddocks Spares) and LR-Direct both set prices in GBP and then give you a floating exchange rate to USD. If a place doesn’t do this (and it’s been a while since I’ve ordered from Paddocks or Craddocks), then you should get a credit card that does not charge you a fee for foreign transactions, and you can buy directly at the (now massively depressed) GBP.

I’ve bought from pretty much all of the UK shops over the years, and am in favor of monetarily supporting any business that supports our crazy community. Rovers North has excellent customer service, and so if I need more hand-holding I am very happy to order from them. UKarauto, now Defender4x4.com wins the prize for most enthusiastic newcomer.

Other than on YRM stuff, RN is competitive and customer service is worth it (and I even pay the premium for YRM stuff from them sometimes).
