End of an era: Bandimere Speedway

Those that have been to Bandimere, particularly for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, know the uniqueness and magic of this place. It is sad that’s the last time I can watch Top Fuel cars go down this track or have the beautiful foothills behind a rocket car going nearly 300mph, sitting so close you feel the heat from the flames. Thanks for the 65 years! You’ll be missed.

I love how they close down racetracks but get mad people race on the streets. Long island used to have bridge Hampton road course, west Hampton drag. All closed NIMBY people.

Bandimere had a clause when built that very literally had them exempt from noise complaints. They just find the money to develop the land more attractive than the race track. They “say” they are trying to find land by the airport which isnt a great location but would allow them to make millions. This one isn’t NIMBY but pure capitalism. They applied for re-zoning the Land years ago.

Agree - and the family dances around the reason why they are closing to make it sound like they don’t have a choice. It’s all about the dollars.

I can still remember the sounds from Bridge race track we heard in Noyac Sag Harbor on weekends. Now all we hear is the swoosh of Teslas.....
