Cowboy Guns?

Anybody into cowboy guns or SASS? I'm intrigued by them but have never gone down that hot and dusty trail. I'm currently reading about the Ruger single action pistols. I messaged a buddy earlier who coincidentally bought a Heritage Rough Rider yesterday. Anybody own a Ruger Wrangler, Single Six or anything else? I would love to hear your thoughts. I'm not looking to shoot cowboy competition, I just want a plinker to shoot steel and tin cans.

Have a Single Six. If .22 is ok would recommend it over the others for the .22 mag capability. Very accurate with adjustable sights. Great for new shooters, my son and a friend from work both had their 1st shooting experiences with it. All I've done is plink with it but it's accurate enough to hunt small game. I've always wanted to pair it with a Henry lever in .22 mag.

Have a friend who used to shoot SASS type stuff with one. Said he did well with it but other shooters looked down their noses as it was less traditional than other pistols/calibers. I don't know that game well enough to know the rules or etiquette.

Regular ammo. They are single action meaning you need to pull the hammer back between shots on the pistols and pump a slide or activate a lever on the rifles. Think of John Wayne cowboy movies.

I have a heritage rough Rider 22 birds head. I use this specifically just to teach people how to shoot. Super fun and super cheap .some states you can't get them due to melting point laws because they're made of zinc.

I had a bearcat 22 birds head shopkeeper I loved it and the quality was considerably better than the heritage but both did the same thing and a friend really wanted it as it was limited edition gun.

As you can tell I just prefer the birds head !

if you want to try something interesting and fun prior to spending big bucks on a single action get yourself one of the pietta black powder single actions, SUPER FUN !

An old family gun. It's fun, but use it infrequently.

I don’t get to say this much anymore, especially at 53, but that’s a little before my time!

Nice pistol. I am working a deal for a collection of 1976 Rugers. It includes a stainless single six. I will post a pic if it goes through.
