Compression Test Kit Reccomendations

I looking to do a compression test on the 300tdi.

Does anyone have a kit that is a decent price, quality and has the adapter LR uses?

Also, any other tips/suggestions from what the repair manual says. This will be my first time doing this. I'm sure nothing could possibly go wrong.

Thanks,
Alex

I think the hf kit has the m10x1 adapter that fits in the glow plug Hole, but not sure

You crack me up.

My diesel compression tester blew apart @ the quick disconnect last I used it so I'm looking a s well.

The LR manual calls for testing at the injectors. The HF kit tests at the glow plugs.

Is there a different pressure value at the glow plugs vs the 348 psi at the injectors.

Thanks,

The only discernible difference would be the difference in volume removed by taking out the injector. Since there is a lower volume of solid material in the compression space the compression will be lower when measured. I have no idea what this calculates out to be mathematically but, depending on where the injector tester actually sits and where the glow plug tester actually sits the difference in volume would be the difference in PSI recorded.

In the real world these are essentially tractor engines and the difference and where are you measure it is not going to be discernible nor matter

What matters is that you have a airtight seal either the glow plug or the injector hole

No. You really just need to check the numbers against each cylinder. As long as the number is decent and they are even you are good. If one is low you have a problem. The HF tester works just fine.

you're going to need a grease gun whip along with the compression test kit (99%) of the (quick connect) fittings won't clear the headbolts. I use the OTC one but also have a harbor freight one somewhere. No two gauges will read the same so don't worry so much about exact numbers. What you are looking for is a difference between cylinders. I'm not sure what your symptom is but I prefer leak down tests.
