It's old skool. The TH350 is a 3 speed gearbox but plenty strong for this application. I'm going to install a '96 LT1/4L65E into my 110 because I've got it here and it's paid for. My cost is well below the latest LSx craze. That said, I have a LS1/4L60E (possibly the original LSx conversion) sitting in my IIA crawler project that I hope to finish one day.
I saw that Ashcroft used to make the adapter kit and no longer carries it.
As kool as it sounds to have a LS engine... You can have the 5.7L with the TH350 for fraction of the cost. Besides, why would you want a Defender with 500 HP... That opens up a boatload of issues with the axles, difs, etc.
Retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. You've heard folks say how did I ever get anything done while employed? It's true! I'm busier than ever just trying to keep up let alone catch up. Of course, my hoarding issues over the last 8 years doesn't aid the situation.
