Bring a Trailer truck

Anyone have any thoughts on this defender? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1994-land-rover-defender-90-nas-30/

Looks like it has had a good bit of rust. They dealt with a lot of it, but could still be an issue. I'm wanting a NAS 90, but the prices are high for a truck that I will use here in the CO mountains, and park outside. This may be an opportunity to snag one for a bit less money....... but don't want to get into a mess. Hard to buy a truck you can't look at in person.

Just looking for other opinions. Thanks.

With 5 days left in the auction too early to determine if it can be snagged for “a bit less”. However, NAS trucks located in Canada do tend to sell for a discount vs. US based trucks. So that’s in your favor.

Looks too pretty to leave it parked outside, but that’s just me.

Lots of discussion about whether the frame swap will impact ability to import to the US…what do you think?

Seller gives the impression of being akin to a snake oil salesman. I love all his reassurance about importability, but zero facts presented to support his “belief”.

BAT is an interesting place to buy vehicles. As you pointed out you can't inspect them and you have a peanut gallery full of numb nuts making stupid comments but yes, deals have been found there. I missed out on a great deal there about 2 weeks ago.

Wagonboy is a HUGE detractor to BAT. At some point somebody will sue the guy for either killing their auction or for buying a turd that he praised as a so-called, self proclaimed "expert".

How dare you question his prominence, the man sells used clothing, he is a Land Rover expert.

I can’t help but suspect that even an NAS spec vehicle with a frame swap is going to have trouble registering it in the US..

Unless NAFTA or other trade agreements override the traditional regulations

I know the truck. It was owned by Hesp Automotive in North Vancouver, owners truck. They are 1 of only 2 shops in Vancouver that work on Defenders. They had a pretty good reputation. Not sure if it's them selling it, or it may have changed hands a few years ago. Try to find out who did the frame swap. It will be a well maintained truck mechanically for the years Hesp had it. Reach out to Will Hedrick about the import, he'll know . If I was a betting man... it would be admissible.

Took alcloser look at the pics, Hesp did the frame swap. I'm guessing someone took it off their hands and is trying to flip it for some profit.

Thanks for all the replies. It’s kind of like rolling the dice. I’ll be keeping an eye on it. How do I find Will Hedrick?

Will Hedrick: https://www.defenderofdefenders.com/

So long as the new chassis has the correct / matching serial number stamped on it in the right place (with a reasonable approximation of the Sollihul font), and you do not directly mention to the customs officer that it is a replacement chassis, how would they know?

They may not notice unless the inspector is familiar with Defenders - the new frame has an area near the rear cross member where “RC” (Richards) is engraved in the frame. That’s the most obvious indicator.
