Breather valve replacement?

Does anyone know how to test the breather valve cover to see if functioning? Have a 2.5 NA. Every time I look at the engine there is small amount of oil drip from the cap, regardless if I'm just doing a top off. Thought, "maybe this needs to be replaced?" not sure how to test. Seems like not a big deal, but then if its not working an easy fix. Thanks. Happy driving.

is oil blowing through the cap to the pre-air cleaner port or intake manifold port? if not, sounds like it's doing its job. keep in mind that cap is nothing fancy. if you have high amounts of oil passing through the cap into the intake mani or air cleaner, i'd put a strong bet on a loss of compression/bad rings.
