Best audio setup for a ROW 110?

You shouldn't have to PTT to talk to passengers. That's only for transmitting. It could simply be ignored unless you got real serious and hooked up your HAM. It is something I've considered, but depends on how loud the thing turns out to be once all is said and done.

Right. I've been looking for the little comm setups that you just plug in say a NATO downlead and you're hotmic'd, but I have little experience with these setups.

We used to use simple moto sabers with nato leads/PTT's, sordins/comtacs in a pinzgauer when we had to drive for hours and hours. Probably gave us ball cancer but worked for talking.

I'd like to use the nato headsets instead of the aviation if possible, already have the equipment so less $$$.

My 110 is pretty loud.

2nd on the David Whites. They work by making your ears and head hurt so bad you completely forget about the engine and prop noise.

But, I have to ask, exactly how loud are you guys Rovers?

Pretty loud. And I have one of the skunk-works bulkheads that cavitates with any airflow through cabin, sounds like a swarm of angry terminator bees is right behind my skull. No body insulation beyond the 5mm or w.e rubber mats.

Still using the peltor's for highway driving. :D

I'm going to skip the headset, which I am pretty sure is illegal (at least in California, where you can use iPhone type headphones but only if one is in, I think). I think that its best that I talk to the semi-local Defender restoration guy, although I don't love his work (quality if fine, but I don't like his choices) he does have good insight.

Louder headsets isn't the best solution. You really want the active noise reduction so that you can turn the volume down and not kill your ears.

Agreed. And probably right, I believe pretty much anything headset/headphone is illegal here, everyone still uses their apple headphones for music anyway. Never ever seen someone punished for this. I figure if I get stopped in the meantime they will understand why... CHP has much better things to do, in our area they are understaffed anyway.

so far it has been ok, I never used the whole boost ambient noise thing, just lowest or second lowest setting has worked fine. IIRC the cutoff for the 2.0 variants was 55db and louder was isolated.
