Battery Test Lead acid, AGM, Optima

I genuinely think Optimas are the worst batteries you can buy. I've got an Interstate AGM H8 in my D90 that has held up well, but I don't have nay kind of brand loyalty to them.

Optima batteries at one time were the best batteries out there. When they moved their production out of the country the quality went out the door. To make matters worse, read their warranty policy. You will be without a battery for 24 plus hours while they determine if your dead battery is dead or just dead.

My dual Yellow Optima batteries were perfect for about 10 years... Now they are junk.

I agree And I have not had a good experience with Optima as well. But... ten years with a battery hell that is really good. Costco has a decent warranty on Optimas no 24 hour thing. Other dealers I imagine not so much.

The platinum AGM line that advance auto parts carries is a quality product.

They are about $200 and there is always a 20% discount coupon available (you have to order online, and pick up in store).

So at $160, pretty incredible value. I have had these in both my L322 and LR4 for some years now with zero issues.

Another vote for the advanced platinums (especially if you do the buy online pickup in store 50 bucks off discount). Bought 5 in the last 4 years and not one issue. The only time I didn't buy one was for my defender when I bought the biggest baddest battery I could find which was an Odyssey 2150....that thing is a monster worth many times over it's cost.

On that note, it seems like his reviews sometimes miss the "community accepted" best product. So not having the advanced platinum or the Odyssey is a curious ommission. Using the gb40 instead of the gb70 in the jump pack challenge (and omitting the gooloo 600), not using optilube xpd in the diesel additives challenge....etc.

Im an Interstate fan which really started because they would come to RN, but even after they've stopped I still buy them. Only 1 failure in 9 years of running them and that was after being gone 3 weeks and the Tdi sitting at -10 to -20 temps every day

Just checked Advanced auto website and they don't list the platinum for defenders, just the Optima.
Perhaps they are pushing the Optima. BTDT never again. As some here know, I like to support one of my Clients, a Napa store. Get discounted price regardless of whatever deal they are running for AAA etc.

I don't think it really matters what they say fits. I have an AGM Interstate H8 battery that is huge in my D90. There is a ton of space in there and the cables are pretty long.

Has anyone found a reliable, large lithium battery? Seems crazy that we're still using lead acid

Weight, size, energy density, lifespan, depth of discharge. You can fit a lot more juice in a lithium battery than you can a lead acid, so theoretically you could have massive storage in the same size battery. The price is holding strong, but once people start moving over that should change

They don't make sense in a normal automotive application where there is no regular cycling of the a battery.

They "can" make sense in a real deep cycle environment like a boat or an RV that see high cycle life but even then the cost analysis is questionable.

I would never buy anything other than an Odyssey PC2150 for a Defender.

Best batteries that I've ever owned.

I had 2 optima redtops go out on the same warranty. I took them both back to Advance Auto and they tested them and replaced them within a few minutes. That said, I would not buy another one -they are junk and unreliable.

Is this the Advanced Auto parts battery everyone is using in the Defender 200Tdi? I currently have an Odyssey 2150 that is about to die and I need a replacement.
