New Defender?

I?m not so sure they will show it but I bet we will at least get some hints with pics of details and some actual specs.

I?m not keeping my hopes up much, I can?t imagine that they actually pull off the utility/commercial/farm truck that a real Defender replacement would be. But there are a few of the third party concept drawings that I could live with as a new model line.

I'm thinking we will see a shadowed, covered Defender on the stage, like Ford did with the Bronco. Or something of the like.

We won't know if it's got any pedigree till we can see the oil spot left on the stage.

....Oh well....

I mean, I watched it with the sound off, so it was pretty cool just to watch all the cool trucks.

I did expect SOMETHING about the future Defender, but I am beginning to think my conspiracy theory from a while back might actually have some merit. My brother, a Toyota guy, actually said the same thing this weekend... Basically, until just recently, there really is no new Defender. The design is so contentious that it is causing such issues in-company that they really are not done with it. The mule we saw before is 100% fake on top, they were only testing the running gear. I think this is why it has taken YEARS to come up with anything, any hint, any tiny little detail about what it will actually look like.

Wonder if the success of the GWagon redesign and the underwhelming response to the Disco 5 redesign caused them to go back to the drawing board - well I can dream.

They are just not ready yet. The Slovakia plant is not close to production. It?ll be awhile still.

It'll be awhile still..... is what we were saying in 2011 when they first showed the DC100.

Most car companies have a concept or prototype one to two years ahead of the production. The whole timeline of old to new over the past decade has been a complete mess.

I'm not unconvinced that there isn't internal strife causing a slow pace on the design. We were told to look for the reveal as long ago as 2014, and it just keeps getting put off.

Based on the very few clues given away yesterday, and based on what I've heard from my visits to JLRNA development here in Portland, it must be that the DC100 is what we are going to get. Modified a bit for production, but essentially the same vehicle as what we saw in 2011.

A Disco 5 / RRS with a more angular body and less fancy interior. If we are really really lucky, space for larger tires, but I would not count on it.

I'd rather have a DC100 than this auto journalists guess.

I like the orange one ----- if it were the Discovery.

The DC100 is looking better and better the longer this goes, but it's way too cute-ute. Needs to man-up a bit.
