Adjusting Wipers

The photo shows where my wipers rest on the down stroke, although just ten minutes ago I adjusted them to be nearly patrolled to the bottom of the windscreen.

They appear to be slipping a spline, but while on the upstroke, thereby causing them to be misaligned once at rest.

Is there something I should know about getting them to stay where I put them? What am I missing here?

Turns out the wipers are stopping about 3" further down when wet, versus when dry.

So adjusting while dry makes them travel way to far when the rain starts. But if you adjust when wet, they rest about 6" up off the bottom of the window sill if you later stop them while the window is dry........

Wiper boxes loose or worn? Is yours the one piece spindle or the type with the adaptor? My old adaptors where slipping on the shaft.

The wiped area really does depend a great deal on the wetness of the windshield.
I also found when I went to 1 inch longer wipers that the covered move but overlapped with the rubber surround, so back to normal length.
One idea I had a few days ago is to try some rain x on the windshield. Went with Plan B, my local DIY car wash and sprayed it with lots of the wax spray they have. I'll see if that makes a difference soon. If not Rain X spray is next.

I Rain X the 90 windshield every time I wash the truck. Helps to much, barely need the wipers.

Yeah, I use RainX as well, and it does help, but not enough -- the window is so vertical that it only runs off when at a stand still. When driving it just seems to pile up!

The adapters are OK, I think it is the shaft itself that has too much play. I'll have to set it to a happy medium and just get used to it.

Anyone have any recommended wiper blades for replacement? I've been very, very happy with the Goodyear blades from Costco. They last MUCH longer than RainX or other blades, perform just as well, and cost about 1/3 the price. But I don't think there are any that are short enough for the Defender.

I bought a set of Silblades for my AlCan trip and they worked great. I'll be swapping them onto the rest of my vehicles.

Maybe try to adjust them when they are off the glass.
Let them park (in the air), then put them on the glass then adjust to park position.
