That wouldn’t pass state safety inspection in Virginia because there wouldn’t be heat for the defroster.

they have no way to know that since all they check is the fan. but that happened maybe once out of the 15 years that i inspected my car there.

It's government overreach anyway..

Sure, you can probably get away with it, but if you follow the inspection manual you are supposed to check for heat from the windscreen vents. When I was a state inspector in Virginia, I failed LR3s and Range Rover Sports with bad heater cores for not adequately heating the windscreen.

I would bet this is not a law unique to Virginia.

I sit here in Texas with it being over 100F for far too many days, and I've recently made the decision that i'll likely be here for a while, sooooo....
I think A/C is going to be necessary for my truck, especially if i want to cart around the family anywhere close to summertime.

  • So I've been told that OEM is probably the best way to go, but it's around $3,700 (uk based) or $4k+ from Rovers North

  • Ministry of Defenders seems alright and Ive heard good things and I like the way they tackled the problem, their kit is probably $2500-$2800 to the door.

  • Coolair Logan looks like OEM and sounds like its quality. I have no idea on price.

  • I've seen old threads about using vintage air...

What are people using, what are people avoiding.

I almost want use MOD A/C and use a MUD UK Pod on the top of the dash to run a/c vents
Here's the MOD with the MudUK top pod., i tapped into the bottom air box, ran 2 hoses up on either side of the MudUK console, then up THRU the top dash pad into custom 3D carbon printed scoops to 2 adjustable face vents from Nostalgic AC (Ocala, FL)
Still dragging my feet to finish a complete video on the system with temperature tests, etc. But it's working well in Miami.
No matter the heat or humidity here, I'm driving comfortably. My back is sweating in the half leather Seats but So is my back in my 2016 Mini Countryman.
I have insulated most EVERY metal surface in the LR90 though, Ceiling, Floors, Bulkhead, seat box, doors, rear tub, etcc..
Also have the Tinted Masai glass and did the barely Noticable 80% transmission Suntek Carbon CPX tint on the front windscreen and 18% on the front doors. Huge difference in heat felt they the glass surfaces.

MoD provides a pair of 3D printed lower vents that rotate so you can direct the air at the bottom up towards you or down to the floor.. these don't seal very well against the lower air box on the dash, so lots of air flow escapes thru there.
I'm looking to correct that by designing a similar rotating vent that has the curves, highs and lows to better seal in that area, which will increase the air flow up top when the vent is rotated upwards..

what about a heated front windshield?
That would not be an acceptable replacement to a traditional defroster in Virginia based on how the inspection manual is worded. That would definitely work better than a traditional defroster
