Looking for a good condition trim piece that surrounds radio

Just recently jumped from air cooled porsches to defenders, still learning where to hunt for discontinued parts like this.

Please point me in the right direction :)

It’s funny, I actually run a company that scan plastic parts for reverse engineering. I could probably get one reverse engineered and a design intent model for a couple hundred dollars. Not sure on cost to print. Was hoping I could find someone with one on a old beat up cubby.

printing that in ABS would cost about $1.00. Just need to model it. It wouldnt be perfect with the grain and all that, but you can do pretty well wiht printed parts these days.

Can you replicate texture as well? Printing is functional, but for them OEM look and feel, the texture needs to be right.

not with what I have at home, but could likely be done with chemicals after the print. i haven't done much post-print finish work, but anything is possible. functionally, filling that gap would be the most beneficial, at least until a replacement is found.

We scan plastic to an accuracy of .0003-5”, so we could get some of the texture. The challenge would be getting the texture on the part. The other challenge with scanning plastic parts is determining the design intent vs as built

Haha, a defender doesn't deserve that precision, it simply wouldn't understand.
Did you not hear him mention he is an air cooled Porsche guy? Haha.

Welcome and good luck with the search. If someone made them, I would be in for a couple.

Let me look into what itll take and get back. I know scanning and reverse engineering it will be around $500 not sure on print cost, but if we can amortize it over a couple might be around $100 a piece. I’d want to prove it out first to mark sure it was close to oem. Technology we use is industrial computed tomography (CT)
