‘94 110 LHD 300 TDI. White smoke

Headed North in Vermont. Encountered som white smoke on passenger side engine compartment. Against firewall behind box in picture (sorry I don’t know what that box is). Thoughts anyone?

Looks like steam leaking out of your heater box. Might need a new heater core.

The truck’s coolant flows through that black box. Are you also seeing coolant leaking from around that box?

Not actively leaking. But it does smoke immediately after a cold start. Can it be bypassed? Until a new heater core could be obtained?

Yes, disconnect both hoses and connect them together with an appropriate fitting.

So with the heater core bypass, are you still getting steam/smoke/leaks? Have you been able to do coolant pressure test?
