What's with all of the 3 door 110's in 1991 and 1992?
Don't get me wrong I love my 1991 3 door but I would have been happy to purchase a 5 door if one had been available at the time.
Any ideas on production numbers of the 3 door vs the 5 door during the 200 Tdi days?

GLWS!

Not sure about Europe but in the UK road tax was done by number of windows. That's why you sometimes see 130 crew cabs with the second row windows covered over and why there were so many 90 vans sold.
91 and 92 model years were when Defenders really started selling in Europe. Before the advent of the 200tdi Rovers diesel engines weren't very popular outside the UK,where people knew better.

Seems really random to base a road tax on the number of windows, then again, it makes as much sense as some of our taxes here in the states...

There is soooo much demand for the 5 drs. I have more than 15 people looking fro 5 drs so they are sold the minute they arrive. I bought some 3 dr 110's so we can make some nice beachcruisers from those trucks.

In Europe trucks can be taxed as commerials ( very little road tax). To approve for commercial classification, the truck must be build to carry goods instead of passengers. Max of 2 seats and no rear side windows, if windows are installed they must be blanked off.

They sold many odd versions including Discovery Commercial editions and unique Defenders for the Netherlands with special load space sizing.

Mike, have you thought of buying clean, solid 5 door RHD's and using the weary LHDs for conversion given the strong demand?

Not really my cup of tea. :)

We cannot convert here in Europe or we will run into problems with US customs. Furthermore, the trucks we are finding at the moment are imported from the south of Europe and have superb frames, much much better than the stuff that comes out of the UK. Most of them have never been undersealed or waxoyled and are as good as new.
