300tdi serp belt part number/size (locally sourced)

Hello all,
I noticed a small part of shredded belt around my fan today so I wanted to change out the belt. Googling it says there are 2 different lengths, but at the usually rover stores only a single part number... any idea what I need if I was to source it locally? Napa, etc - 7 groove but what length?

I have a late '94 300tdi if that helps.

Depends on engine number, technically, but there are 2. Up to engine # 16L25164 and from engine #16L25165. 15mm difference

Can you tell engine number from VIN (original motor)? I can always look when I'm home though

Negative. Ironically enough, it is actually a VIN break on Disco 300s.

I have a later engine, and the Dayco number is 7PK 1580. Just need one .5" shorter.

That wouldn't be right then ..I have 252270A and that Dayco belt number I pulled from my engine.

Get both, return one.

My local NAPA had every length belt imaginable. My Prado A/C needs a 46 5/8" belt which they had in stock.

Got a Napa branded 7PK 1580 on it (ironically the packaging states the length as 1594mm). Drove for 1 mile, heard a pop and now the belt is walking off... Tensioner broke, that was likely my issue the whole time (seemed fine upon install, oh well). Doing this again in a few days. Also in the future, that belt is the same as 1995-93 BMW 530i, 540i, 740i, 740iL, 840Ci

Normally I agree, but this one was staffed by a level of apathy out-of-character for Napa. They really didn't want to sell me a belt "for something not in their computer" #sad
