300Tdi persistent air in fuel system

I installed a new sedimenter to replace the one that broke and put in a new Airtex 12V fuel pump while I was at it. I also replaced a failed spill line on the motor. Now when I go to run the truck in the morning, it loses power immediately due to air in the fuel line. The electric pump makes it super easy to bleed and continue on my way but I want to solve this.

There are no visible fuel leaks.

Here's what I've checked so far:

- Pulled apart sedimenter and verified that the o-rings were intact. Reinstalled.
- Tightened barb fitting-to-fuel pump connection. The barb was slightly damp.
- Pulled fuel filter and inspected gasket, then reinstalled.

My suspicion is the fuel pump, since that's one of the few things that changed. I was thinking about using some of that white plumbers tape on the threads of the barbed fittings. Is that stuff diesel-safe?

Any other ideas for things to check?

I bought a yellow "diesel compatible" teflon tape off of a vendor on eBay who sold a bunch of biodiesel stuff. I think the white stuff breaks down.

Thanks, guys. I pulled the pump installation apart and reassembled with the high-tack sealant. Crossing my fingers that she's rearing to go with no problems when we head out for Nevada tomorrow morning.

I used the yellow Teflon tape (bought at Home Depot) on the natural gas fittings on the back of my house to to plumb in a line to our gas BBQ grill.

Robert, you are the man! Truck started up and ran with no problems this morning. It was either the threaded connectors or the little filter. Thanks dude.

For everyone else with a 300Tdi that hasn't done it yet; stop what you're doing and order an Airtex fuel pump and get it installed. Major improvement in ease of fuel system maintenance and truck seems to run much better with it, too.
