2018/9 Discovery discount off MSRP

My father is looking to get rid of his 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and maybe upgrade to something a little nicer. I told him he should consider the new Discovery. I have never bought a car from Land Rover dealer, and TrueCar.com doesn't have any data on the truck for discount off MSRP. Are LR dealers usually negotiable? If so anyone have any insight they can provide?

I've been looking at inventory online looks like there are 171 2017 models still available in my area, and over 200 2018. Additionally I have never seen one on the road on Long Island or the city where there is no shortage of Range Rovers in all shapes and sizes. Something tells me these things aren't selling so good...

Anyone know of the "Intelligent start/stop" can be permanently disabled? He refused to buy something that requires this to be pressed every time you get in the vehicle.

It depends on the dealer for pricing.

You cannot permanently disable the stop start. Why would you want to disable it?

Cool thanks.

He doesn't want that feature on any of his cars, he hates it and is set in his ways. Dang, complete deal breaker in this instance. A lot of manufacturers won't allow it to be completely disabled anymore.

Do you have any warning lights on?

None. We had it in for a failed water pump and an update to the supercharger. I told them there seems to be a vibration at idle. When we got it back they?d up run through a software update and it hasn?t start/stopped since.

Is this unusual?

Oh okay, I thought you were saying they intentionally disabled it. More than likely your battery is too weak which is preventing it from going into an auto stop/start. There are many factors that can inhibit a stop/start event such as exterior temp and climate control demands. Low battery voltage is by far the most common reason to prevent an auto stop/start.

That feature is annoying. Had a loaner car with it and vowed never to own one. In hot climates the car doesn't stay as cool even though the AC runs somewhat while stopped.

Jesus what a cluster. As if one more thing needed to be tossed in the mix for future grimlins to chase.

I feel like modern automobile technology peaked in 2015ish and it has been a down hill road since than of concessions made for emissions (although saving the earth is important).

The dealer in Wilmington DE is changing hands and they were discounting trucks by 10k.

Thanks Jimmy. Sad for a truck to be 2 years old with 28k miles and potentially need a battery. We probably use the seat warmers too much. The water pump told us at 24K we?d worn out her welcome.

my brother in England was actively discouraged from buying the new gen Discovery by the dealer. Unlike the LR4 gen, the new gen is not a genuine viable seven seater. It’s just too small.
For that reason alone, I bet it has lost many sales.

Jimmy, I just read on a UK site that new smart Alt do not charge batteries to a full charge these days and is why batteries don?t last. Have you heard this theory?

Have you been in the new Discovery? It is a really big vehicle. I haven't actually been in the third row in one, but I think the middle row slides forward to give third row passengers more leg room. If you can get past the exterior looks, I can't see any advantage the LR4 has over the Discovery. It drives so much better and has a way nicer interior.

I don't think it is that the batteries don't last, I think the vehicle systems are much more sensitive to low voltage. You probably don't have a bad battery in your LR4, it probably just needs to be charged and every day driving isn't enough unless you do a lot of long trips. Basically if you come out to your car in the morning and you battery voltage is less than 12.6V, your battery needs to be charged.

Personally, I like the new disco. I've had separation anxiety since I traded my LR3 for my grand Cherokee. Never drove one, but reviews call it quite capable, and I sat in it several times.

Nothing tops the interior. I sat in all 3 rows, and agree it is configured different and is a bit more tight, but has more cargo space with 3rd seats up. I dislike some of the exterior lines, and understand, but hate not having the split tailgate. The rear end body panel mod would be a must, but the diesel is calling my name. Hopefully trade in the Jeep in the next few years for one that's a little seasoned. I know not many on the forums like them, but I hated the lack of power of my 4.4, and love my Fiat diesel. So it's the only new rover option I'm into.

Not that Google doesn't have better, but here's a few I snapped. The tech inside is pretty sweet also.

Nope I haven't. Honestly my Defender gets my petty cash. That said, I've seen plenty and the only color that covers up that bulbous rear end is black. I really haven't yet learnt to love the styling.

LR4 at least before 2014*? does not have the stupid mini hockey puck volume control gear knob

more interior volume and a square shape to boot, minor difference in a few cubic feet but it is better.

is what comes to mind

The new ones are very plush to sit in, but feels off.
