1.2 vs 1.4 vs 1.6

Anyone know where to find the math on LT230 gearing differences?

Hate to take a perfectly good 1.6 out of my ROW 110, but I'm considering a 1.4 or 1.2 replacement, primarily for a little more top end speed. Living down south around sea level, mountain passes are not a concern at the moment :)

I'm running a 200tdi mated to an R380-stumpy with 285/75/16's that is quite comfortable at 60+ish on the flats and slightly hilly terrain, but I'd like to get closer to (if not over) 70+ish. No tach gauge, but at 65 mph it seems like I'm really pushing the revs.

Knock on wood, tuning, fueling and boost 'seem' dialed in at the moment, so I'm thinking gearing is a reasonable path to more sensible highway speeds. I'm fond of the new rubber, so I plan on sticking with the 285's, even if I have continue life in the right hand lane. Or maybe, if it ain't broke (yet), I should just leave it alone. She is a temperamental beast.

Thoughts?

My old HCPU had a 200Tdi and 1.6 in it with 235/85s. I hated it. Sounded like the 200 was going to blow up at 55mph.

I had a spare 1.2 that I swapped in, and things were good, but a HCPU is lighter than a SW. Indeed I found that a full load of wood was tough with the 1.2, so you'd probably be very happy with the 1.4.

Getting a 1.2 is easy with all those D1/2 being junked.
A 1.4 is harder. Just have to be patient for someone to offload one.

The jumps are appx 15% per a conversation with Dave A. Ie a 1.4 is 15% shorter than a 1.2 and a 1.6 is 30% taller. 110 tdi's came with 1.4's and I think that is the best for all around gearing- low enough you can run taller tires but first isn't so tall you have to slip the clutch to get rolling.

1.6's were only in the 2.5 petrol,2.5 natural diesel, and the damned 19j. IE stuff with no power or torque. The 1.6 is horrible (ie rev's way above the sweet spot) on a tdi engine unless you have 35-36 inch tall tires.

Had a 200 tdi with a 1.6 and 35's and that was an awesome combination
