Thanks for all of this, sounds like they're prone to leak no matter what you do. Mine has gotten gradually worse to the point of excessive, I worry about it when I'm chugging along on long drives.
Funny you say that, that's how this all started, I have them out to replace the U-joints, and then thought...well you know. Now, I'm thinking maybe I should do my clutch too, if I'm that close to it.
Well the salt has been put on the roads already here in VT, so the Defender is going into hibernation for a while. I'm building up the motivation to drop my Lt230 out of the truck to tackle the excessive oil leak it has. I got the kit from Roversnorth with all of the gaskets and O-rings. I'm...
I agree that sounds like symptoms of a bad accumulator, the pump was running excessively because the diaphragm in the accumulator isn't holding pressure anymore. I would try to re-bleed the system.
Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into a Suburban discussion. It's a half-ton, our old one seemed better, but the tail wag on this trip was terrible. It has a brake controller, and reasonable amount of power, but was getting pushed all over the road...long trip. I guess I'm spoiled with my...
Suburban actually has a slightly higher tow rating than the Range Rover, and an integrated brake controller. Looks like we have opposing views on this, that's ok, it was just an opinion based on an inordinate amount of towing in my life. You make a good point on proper tongue weight, and hitch...
It probably could do it, but I think you'd be asking a lot of it. Towing anything substantial with a vehicle that's not really designed for it can make for a long trip. I just towed a horse trailer with two horses @ 4,000 pounds total behind my wife's suburban from Maryland to VT and it was...
Great accomplishment. I've been through it myself, and was surprised for a long time that I pulled it off, and how dependable the truck became...worth all the effort.
Like Overlander says, overheat is a killer, a coolant hose went on mine and it overheated quickly. The head gasket went soon thereafter, the head can't take it. I'd replace any suspicious looking hoses. Otherwise it's been super reliable.
