New boots for the D3
Continental Terrain Contact AT 255 /55-19

About to do a run up to the Moutain Camp in NM. Will see how they handle mud and dirt roads.
Fitted a set of AB HD coil springs to the D3, Can't really say anything bad of them, only wish the dampers where a bit firmer. Get a bit of land yacht ride over bridges where the sections dip. Got 4k miles on them now and happy I don't have to worry about riding the bump stops for hundreds of miles.

Had an increasing vibration under acceleration, especially bad 30-45mph. Pulled the front propshaft and vibration is close to eliminated.
IJs look and feel just fine. So off to a driveshaft shop on Monday. Could need rebalancing. We shall see.

I can't recall who made the original. But the end pieces are all that remains of the original.
Mitchell's in Shrewsbury Ma cut out the center section and replaced it plus rebalancing. It's much beefier than what was there.

Amazing how much Krud the old one collected, and how well the ends cleaned up.

Concluding they aren't made or available anymore, I made a replica of the original spare tire cover for #15. Sent logo art to a stencil company and had Alpine White spray can on hand to paint the logo into the cover44E4AE01-B9D7-4134-84F3-707FFBB1F13A.jpeg

As I posted, the exact replica is not available. The only thing you can find now are the green versions. That's not what came on mine in 1992. Here's
the original 15 years ago with the original 7.50 Michelin mounted on the carrier:

I thought they came from the factory with the white plastic cover. Also, I didn't think they came with Michelin tires. I thought they came with tubed Avon tires or something like that.

So there I was....Take the Defender to a Business appointment, head out to the kennel to pick up my three dogs, Get back into it and one half of the drivers door window falls into my lap when I close the door. Guess I should have actually put the new felt in sooner.....

Replaced my LT77 and 1.6T with an Ashcroft R380 stumpy and 1.4T, oh my-so nice. HD support bearing on the R380 and sleeved casing with HD cross pin on the LT230 for upgrades.

Changed out a viscous coupling on the RRC BW transfer box. I am thinking this one is also U/S. Going to hit the sand and walmarts parking lot for a test. So an lt230 is going be sourced. unless I can find a cheap P38 coupling, one with low miles.
