Did you finish the job?

finished the headlight install along with a few other odds and ends over the weekend. below are some photos.

the flat front lamps are definitely different, i like them. they are a serious upgrade over the 30 year old, rusted H4 lamps that were in there before.

@Dan kemper when you do the vnt upgrade make sure to plug the oil feed stand off bolt you are removing . Or else you will have a massive boost leak . Directions don't mention it , found this on two local nclr trucks !

Matt, thanks for the heads up. I’ll look out for this.

Dyna beads or bb's

I've had bad experiences with Dynabeads in the past. In my D90, they would randomly cause a death wobble on the highway. I can't remember what the scenario would be, but it happened right after installing them and stopped once I removed them. It was also a huge PITA to remove them.

BBs worked well on my RRC with 37" tires and bead locks, but I didn't do a ton of highway miles with it.

I've had very good luck with airsoft pellets for balancing. i put 250g (1000 .25g pellets) in each of my 35" tires and they are smooth as could be.

this was about $10 worth of airsoft pellets.

For $250+ a tire in 2020 the damn things shouldbe round. We arent talking bias play super swamper etc.

Apparently this is not uncommon, Land Cruiser friend went through 6 KM2s to get a set of 4.....

Coolant system flush on a 20 degree day... Started out as a quick job changing a bad t-stat, realized it was full of what appeared to only be water 😬... Having said that, I'm super happy I found this before a stretch of cold. Flushed it about a dozen times with hot water until it was running clear and refilled with Green. No leaks, t-stat works and heat is hot.

After four years, I finally gave up on taking the heater matrix in to be repaired and spent some time searching for a "close enough match to fit” into the Kodiak in the Series. Turns out, the matrix from a Bronco II looks a bit like the original. Other than blocking the sides with some stiff closed cell foam, and making sure the pipes are pushed through long enough, I didn’t have to do any kind of modification.

With the water pump showing 161 degrees, the matrix inside the cab showed 140 degrees. The flow is a bit better than what I get in the Defender, and the temps I get out of the Defender vents is only 94 degrees even when the engine is at 190.

I may be driving the soft top series to stay warm.

Big fall/winter for me and my new-to-me '94 NAS 90 ST.

Fluid filmed the underbody. That was a pain, but it seems to be holding up nicely.
Replaced the oil cooler lines with the trailhead 4x4 stainless braided lines.
Replaced a bad ground on my Hella lights
Changed the transmission fluid. Another pain.
Refurbed the battery box and upgraded the battery connections
Removed the old amp and rewired the radio to bypass. The amp power wire at some decided to light itself on fire and since it was still there I figured best to remove. When I finish refurbing the passenger seat storage I'll probably add a new amp, but for the time being it works just fine.
