SW door handle rust. How to address?

The rear handle area on my truck has some rust close to the door lever. Are there any expert opinions on how to remedy?

Sand/dremel the area and hit with some primer or galvanizing rattle can?

That is a bolt plate, you can just replace it or remove sand and paint

Thanks. I’ll look into that now. Much easier than attempting to work on it in place.
