Rust on Water Pump Impeller

So I am in the middle of changing the timing belt on my 200tdi and the impeller on the water pump has blobs of rust on it. Has anyone seen anything like this before? I am putting in a new pump, but should I be concerned about the cause of this indicating a problem elsewhere?

Thanks in advance.

Is your antifeeze 50% distilled water and 50% anti freeze ?

Never use tap water, too many chemicals & minerals.

This is from a "new to me" D90, so I am not 100% sure what the PO used for coolant, but the water/antifreeze did seem pretty "watery" when I drained the system. Seemed like low antifreeze content. I am replacing the radiator as well as part of the process.

Old formulation glycerin based antifreeze becomes acidic after about three years. Many do not change and flush as they should. It will eat/pit aluminum as well-ie eat holes in your radiator and heater cores..

It's okay to drink though, right?
