Because bolt on bling! Your guess is as good as mine. If I had to have a spare on a bed with a drop down tailgate I’d get a swing out tailgate. You have to swing the spare away to open the back so it may as well take the rear door with it when it swings out. Functionally I don’t think it makes sense to keep the drop down if you mount a spare on the rear.

I already have a swinging wheel carrier and drop-down tailgate. I just always prefer the tailgate over the swing out. My truck was a half door swing out and is now a tailgate
