Oil in Air Filter Housing

1988 110 - recently acquired my dream truck. Got oil changed today and wanted to check filter. Noticed there was oil in the housing and filter. The bottom of the housing has a hole. I assume this is where it is sucking in some of the oil (noticed a few leaks around the pan and rear main likely getting sucked into the housing). I assume this hole is supposed to be plugged by something?! Could not find any good pics/descriptions online. Appreciate any advice.

What motor do you have?
The hole is a water drain. The missing part is a "valve assembly air intake" part number NRC8955 if its a 200-300Tdi. If it is something else it MIGHT be the correct part too.

The oil is most likely coming from your engine breather. I would clean it up as well as you can and monitor how fast it gets slimed up again. Could be your breather cyclone (if you have one) needs cleaning, has failed or you have a pressurized crankcase.

Thanks for the reply. It has a 2.5TDi. Not sure if it has the breather cyclone or not. Will need to check that out tomorrow. Where is the cyclone typically located? The breather hose essentially runs straight from the crankcase cover to the filter housing. If I do not have a cyclone, I assume that can only mean it is a pressurized crankcase. Sounds like that would require an engine rebuild to fix? Is this something I could hold off on for a while until I get this back to the States next summer?

As for the part. Thanks for the details. Will get that ordered ASAP. Is it designed to have the pointed end sitting the hole?

Again, thanks. Also, a big hello to my home State of AZ!

You're in Europe so might be fairly easy to stop by a couple shops and get some live opinions. Get a workshop manual online and familiarize yourself with the engine components as you discover issues. Very best way to learn your truck.

You're right on the money with blocked breather. Same thing happened to wifey's old Turbo Volvo. All of a sudden it started consuming engine oil. PCV system was blocked up solid. So solid, some tubes had to be replaced.

You're going to have to remove the entire intake system and clean that crud out. Intercooler included if fitted. Then get to the engine oil system to stop it from pressurizing the engine all over again.
