Ofcourse the alternator would die on a Sunday on the 300tdi

So this morning on my ride home from work I noticed the tac stopped working on my ems3.
So I scrolled and saw my battery voltage at idle was 12 volts and when driving would jump up to 14/14.3.

Where would I find a proper replacement for an alternator by this afternoon? Part of me is tempted to order the rivers north unit but I don't see paying 87 for next day helping since they open Monday.. Any generic auto part stores have anything? Have 2 more nights to do then I'm off for 8 days

There is a list of substitute parts somewhere but I can't find it. It probably has the part number for a 300tdi alternator at an auto parts store. I'll look a bit more and post if I find the thread.

Thanks a million! It's funny, I started stocking up in parts that I thought might be hard to get. Didn't get an alternator yet.

that's likely the regulator. On my 2.8 TGV it was a spare that I carried that was easy to swap out on the alternator with just a screwdriver. I would assume, as most older design alternators, that you can just get a replacement regulator as well for under $40. that's the part that usually fails on an alternator, not the stator/motor itself

I’ve given up on rebuilding alternators. The cost benefit favors going new these days.
It is a piece of cake to replace the regulator/brushes unit on most of these alternators.
And the weight and size of the replacement regulator/brushes unit is a tiny fraction of that of a whole alternator.
What do you do if one tanks a hundred miles from the nearest parts store?

exactly this. it's not much bigger then a maxi-fuse

Is the regulator replaceable on magnito merelli (sic) rover alternators? If so, where does one procure one?

This applies mostly to NAS alternators, but the process and the parts sources are similar:

Wonder if a bad regulator would cause a power drain? Cause my battery was stone dead. Had to jumpstart the truck and hold the has down to maintain 12.4 volts. Ordered the alternator..

I thought bad diodes were what caused the battery drain, but I don’t know. I do know 95% of battery draw issues on rovers are alternators or aftermarket radios.

It could, but here's what you can check.
With the ignition off, there should be no voltage at the sensor wire of the alternator (marked D+ in the photo below):
