New and vastly improved Defender ignition switch

I heard from a reliable source that there is a new Ign switch (electrical part) to replace the current unit which has the white plastic with the 3 crimps.

The new unit has black plastic and the crimped metal goes the entire circumference of the black plastic, encasing the plastic from the usual popping-off as does the failure of the white plastic unit.

My friend saw the switch itself at an independent rover shop in Phoenix, but didn't catch the part number of the new unit.

Anyone here know of this new switch and part number ? Pictures ?

Yeah, I think I had this one put in, it's a Puma ignition. Let me ask Dean at Independent British for the part number when my truck goes back into the shop next week.

Here's a picture of the back of the improved switch.
But it seems that LR left it with the old part number, which will usually get you the white plastic, piece of crap unit. Verbiage shows it to be for Defenders 2007 forward.

Why there is no superseded number is anyone's guess ??

RN decided to conceal this by giving the new switch their own RN part number RNE518
(probably means rovers north electrical item 518).

I have seen this black unit priced alongside a white unit and the black unit. The black seems to be $65 to $88 in price. I suspect there is no aftermarket part. On a Japanese site, they show the black unit next to a LR box with the LR039638 part number on the box.

Good luck getting the black unit you'd pay for with the white unit having the same part number on sites such as LR Direct.

Yea. They ship quick, prices are good, and they let you know quick if an item isn't available but offer zero tech support. You can't call them up and ask them to make sure it is the black version like you could with say RN or RovahFarm.
