Marine Grade Carpet

So I'm looking to do at least part of the interior trim myself by lining it with marine grade carpeting.

If you know of a place in the Portland area, that would be great. Or if you have ordered online, I'd like to know what you got, your review of it, and what color you decided to go with. Doesn't have to be a perfect match, but would be great if it was close to the same grey that was/is in the truck already.

Gotta be a marine supplier in Portland? I got a roll from a supplier on the Web was good stuff 1/3 the cost of West Marine.

I have thick rubber matting for the cargo/floor pan areas. I am thinking for under seats, seat box even, and bench areas in rear cargo, etc...

Do you remember where you got it from? And was the color a close enough match? Pics?

Sorry I don't remember, but I found them with a Google search and if I remember rightly you can get samples. I got a nice dark grey with a hint of black.

Splurge on the Exmoor matting - worth the cost in the long run..

That's true, but for the money, right now, I want to reserve as much as I can for any potential problems that might pop up when I start driving. I expect to get a proper set of mats for the bulkhead and seatbox in the next year or two.

I built a cargo floor out of Baltic birch with Mac's Tie Downs anchor points. I used some commercial-grade black carpeting that I got at Lowe's. It's really good stuff and I've used it several times before. It's held up to many desert trips and lots of muddy Pelican cases being dragged out of it. The carpet weave itself is as high-quality as Exmoor carpets are, but it's not cut to shape and it's not bound on the edges like the Exmoor stuff and it doesn't have a backing fabric. If you're willing to do your own cutting and sewing, you could save a little money. I had no problem at all carpeting my rear tub with it.

The stuff I have now is black but here is an earlier grey installation I did on my previous truck:

The grey in those pics looks like the stuff I have right now on the shelf I made for the Disco. But I don't have any clue where I got it from! Did you get the grey at Lowe's as well?

Yes, all the carpet came from Lowe's. you have to do some digging to find the good stuff. I used contact cement to put it on my Baltic birch sheets.

Gluing it down is a good idea. I wrapped it and stapled, and the stuff has held up well, I just don't have more than a few feet of it left. I was building a drawer system when I realized that my Pelican case and my ammo box tool case both fit perfectly right where I planned to make drawer, so I just left it as a shelf to slide those two things under, and have really loved it. I want to expand on it for the Defender.

And although I do eventually want to get a proper seat box cover, the rear cargo area up to under the rear seats at least needs to be done, and I suspect it will help a lot with noise.

I've used black outdoor carpet that I've only been able to find at Home Depot. I plan on using it again in a few weeks when I start my rear storage transformers build.
