LT230 Input Gear Repair ?

I've had this LT230 from a '97 XD Disco in my garage for a long time.

Clearly it needs a new input gear, and who knows what else.

Question is, should I even attempt this?

I have no dial indicator or whatever else is needed to repair it, and I really don't need one right now...never know about the future ;)

I'm tempted to just buy the gear / bearings, seals, etc just in case it ever becomes useful...who knows, the Perentie might need a 5-speed someday ;)

Thanks

Dial indicators and bases are dirt cheap. You don’t need starrett for an LT230. An LT230 is about as easy to rebuild as things come. Not sure what the input gear costs, but I’d at least take it apart and see what the issues are.

It could be a fun exercise just to learn how to rebuild one. When Pick-n-Pull here has a sale a 1.2 lt230 is $67 out the door.
