Disconnecting Exhaust

So, I have a theory that there is something in the exhaust/muffler creating back pressure. I went to go remove my muffler and see if that is the issue. Apparently my muffler is welded in place.

Is there any reason I can't just disconnect the exhaust near the motor/turbo and run it to see if that lets her breathe? Is she doing to catch fire and explode?

Nope won't hurt anything. I ran a Volvo 5 cyl from Tech Center to Springs and had zero problems so it can't be an issue for a diesel that doesn't really need an exhaust other than to send smoke to the back.
