Boost decrease/Turbo Failing?

Truck has been running decently. Just moved the oil cooler lines from an after market air cooler to the Alisport radiator to see if that would get my oil temps down, they've been higher since I changed the thermostat to run a little warmer to get more cabin heat.

Went to head to southern CO today, pulling a 1200# camper.

EGT was 800-1200 (on a long hill), oil pressure was fine, coolant was fine, Boost was getting to 14 under load, oil temp was 190-210. Decent power uphill considering we are at altitude and it had the extra weight.

After an hour of heading up in altitude (to Conifer for the locals) the Boost dropped to barely 10 psi, the power was significantly lower, turbo became a wheeze, not the usual noise, and oil temp increased to 260. Pulled over to let it cool a bit and see if there was anything obvious. Nothing. Oil looked good, hoses all attached, not leaking coolant or oil. Just no power, hot oil temp, and weird turbo sound.

Limped home with the boost not exceeding 10 psi, EGT stayed under 1100, oil temp 210 range. Black smoke with it was under powered but otherwise fine.

Thoughts on what happened? No sign of any loose hoses, not sure what happened to the boost/turbo power. Is this the failing of my turbo?

Did you take off the turbo hose and look at the impeller? Any play? Any (more than usual) oil consumption?

So now I feel like a daft fool.

I took off the turbo hose to check that and realized the waste gate hose was no longer connected. The clamp had worked itself back up the hose and the hose came off. Headed out to get a new clamp, attach the hose and be good to go.

Had something similar happen to mine.
The hose to the gauge right at the intake manifold split, probably due to age & exposure to oil fumes.

Note: I did move my wastegate hose up to the rear outlet of the intake manifold (same place the boost gauge hose originates from) so that I get a true 1 bar blow off point after the intercooler. The opening at the turbo now only serves the IP diaphragm.

New clamp installed. Boost is back to just below 14. Wheezing is gone. She's happy again.

Makes sense as my mechanic just replaced the freeze plug in the block there the day before.
