Anyone with a soft top looking for a station wagon?

Been toying with the idea of installing an NAS cage on my '86 d90. I feel like it would be somewhat of a sin to drill into this thing. It's a fully restored, zero rust truck with only a couple thousand miles since the install of a fully rebuilt 200TDI engine. Truck runs and drives problem free. Thought I'd make a post just to see any options out there. You can check out my 90 on the member trucks section but heres a pic to give an idea. Currently has 1993 NAS brush guard with dual Rallye lights and an original NAS rear step bumper with D ring mount and '97 side steps. Brand new rubber mats, just bought a ripple grey headliner from LR (also have the original). No problems

Some more pics of the 90. Forgot to mention the Moto-Lita wheel (have the original as well), the aluminum sump guard (YRM Metal) and the set of body color matched half doors (see pics)

Also has

Tuffy center console

Land rover Radio

MUD pod with all new VDO gauges

Raptor lined interior in body color (just seatbox, floor pans and trans tunnel)

I'm confused - is this a for sale ad or a trade/swap offer? Great looking truck btw.

Why not instead of a NaS cage you put a external style row cage ? P&p even make one that doesn't require holes on the wings or body , it attaches to the lower outtiggersand the rear crossmember from the outside

Pretty sure I've found a full NAS cage and am going to pull the trigger. Any idea if the ROW bulkhead will be an issue when installing or can I just leave out the bulkhead bar from the cage?

You should go all the way and cut the bulkhead out. It isn't very hard, especially with the roof off. It makes a positive difference.

Excuse my ignorance but what do you have to cut to convert to a soft top? I have never studied a NAS ST in person or saw detailed pictures where the cage attaches. The sides where the top snaps in?

Roof unbolts, replace rear door. Front fenders cut if NAS cage.

I am toying with converting mine, but will probably end up just installing a sun roof. I would use a new SD cage and make a nice padding solution.

Super helpful image, Thanks Adam!

Im hoping all I will have to do drilling wise is the front fenders and sides for the channels. Also hope the under-the-body portions of the cage will align with the ROW frame. Anyone ever see a NAS cage on a ROW? should look pretty unique. Tried to find pictures but no luck.

Ill post a ton of pictures of the install as soon as it gets going too. Wouldn't start until thanksgiving so ill have a bit more time to see if anyone with a ST wants to trade, still makes me feel a bit queezy thinking about drilling into the body

The Bulkhead bar provides important rigidity. Don't leave it out. Which is a problem since it and your BH both want to occupy the same space.
