2.5na to 200tdi: Ignition Wiring/ Switch

Looking for some guidance on the wiring and replacement switch.

My current 2.5na wiring looks like this:

Pin 1: Brown
Pin 2: Black/ White & White/ Orange
Pin 3: White/ Red
Pin 4: White
Pin 5: Brown/ Red

My current switch is falling apart and is tough to turn. Somehow, in my numerous LRD orders, I ended up with switch LR041320 which is a newer style switch. I can't seem to get this switch to work correctly - it could be that it's a newer style and won't work - it could also be that I'm an idiot.

Has anyone wired up this switch and/or can you offer guidance on the correct switch/ wiring diagram?

You do know that you do not need to replace the entire steering lock? You can replace just the switch module and leave the key and lock alone. That is a really late switch. You might try the 300TDi electrical wiring guide and cross reference to the old one to figure out a way to make it work. It will be a lot of effort to figure it out as the 300TDI wiring is much more complex.

If it were me, I would go back to like for like.

I had the problem with the hard-to-turn key and it was because my key (the one and only that came with the truck) was worn and didn't push the tumbler pins down far enough. As I recall, I replaced just the tumbler and key and kept the switch.

What year does that switch fit? If it is newer than 2000, I can probably get the wiring diagram for it.

Ben,

The only issue with the switch is going to be glow plug related. Your early switch would have had a "hold to glow" point and the new one is meant as a "wait to start" - you will need to add in a glow plug timer to get proper use out of your new switch (assuming you used the original 2.5 wiring)

The large barrel lock allows for key matching to the doors and one-key for the whole truck (post 2002 push button handles needed)

Email me and I can help you with the pin out info.

Thanks for the replies.

Also, thanks, Brian. I did add the genuine glow plug harness/ relay and have used all existing 2.5na wiring. Do you happen to know the correct wiring/ pin route?
