This is an Australian Perentie, built to a military contract. The chassis is much heavier duty that a UK built truck or even the after market chassis that are supposed to be thicker, additionally the chassis on these trucks were galvanized. This truck has 98,000 kilometers which is a little over 60k in miles, very, very, low mileage for a 26 year old vehicle. The engine is the somewhat renowned Isuzu 4BD1 which was sold in US model Isuzu light trucks and parts are available from Isuzu of your local GM dealer or most anywhere else. The engine is EPA approved and 50 state legal. The gauges are all VDO. The truck is a soft top and the top is new. The tires are Michelin XZL's and are like new. Has the gasketed tool boxes in the wasted space behind the rear tires. This truck was hand picked @ auction by Matt Derrig of KLR and was not cheap @ auction. Before shipment to the US power steering and an aftermarket turbo setup were added to the truck. Aside from surface corrosion on the pioneer tool holders on the bonnet there is zero corrosion. I have put about a 1000 miles on the truck since importing it last August and love it but I have 7 rovers plus my kids trucks and it needs to go. This thing flies and is a blast to drive. I personally feel the perenties represent the best value of any defender you could buy. They are certainly the best built. We are converting a perentie to LHD right now for a customer so that is an option.

Man those Perenties are sweet. Always wondered what VDO means, I think it has something to do with the gauges? Also, any chance you could post a pic of the dash on these trucks? I think I've read that they are significantly different/better but I haven't seen a good pic yet.

VDO is a german gauge company.

The dash used in the perentie 110's is the same as used on other models. The dash in the wider 6x6 cabs (9 inches wider) has the unique fiberglass dash.

Like some German companies, VDO is an appreviation for the actual company name:

"VDO was founded by Adolf Schindling and the result of a merger between DEUTA (Deutsche Tachometer-Werke GmbH, English: German Speedometer Works, Ltd.) and OTA Apparate GmbH (Offenbacher Tachometer-Werke GmbH, English: (City of) Offenbach Speedometer Works, Ltd.) in the German city of Frankfurt am Main in 1929.[1] VDO stands for "Vereinigte DEUTA - OTA, English: United DEUTA - OTA."

And now you know the rest of the story.
